Pleasantville Appalachia Service
Project
2008 is the 10th year of our involvement The Presbyterian Church oversees
the Pleasantville Appalachia Service Project volunteer program. Each summer we
send youth and adult volunteers to Central Appalachia for a week-long
home-repair ministry. In 2007, our volunteer group prepared for the mission trip
through various local community service projects. We then traveled to Clinchco,
Virginia, near the Kentucky border, where we spent a week repairing and
rebuilding homes as part of the ASP home repair ministry.
It costs about $700 to send each volunteer to Appalachia. A big part of that cost goes to ASP, Inc., which purchases the building materials we use to repair people's homes.
